Australian Regional Economies Conference 2008
Top US regional development expert for Terrigal Conference
How does entrepreneurship work to energise and evolve regional economies?
This is what Brian Dabson will discuss at the Australian Regional Economies Conference 2008 to be held in Terrigal from 11-13 May this year. Brian Dabson is a Research Professor at the Harry S. Truman School of Public Affairs at the University of Missouri – Columbia in the US. He has written and presented extensively on various aspects of economic development policy and practice, with a particular focus in recent years on entrepreneurship and economic development in rural America.
Brian Dabson is part of the outstanding line up of speakers, which also includes Professor Roy Green, the Dean of Macquarie University’s Graduate School of Management. They will be joined by social researcher and futurist, Mark McCrindle who is regarded as one of the foremost social analysts of our time. He is a trained psychologist, a qualified social researcher and an expert in tracking the emerging trends of business and society. AREC 2008 on the Central Coast of NSW will focus on the concept of Economic Gardening. The fundamental principle of Economic Gardening is to build the business base from the inside out by providing support to local entrepreneurs and businesses. This is a key challenge to regions around Australia, seeking to provide local employment opportunities and to stem the flow of talent to the cities and overseas.
The conference will feature other inspirational speakers and economic development experts, such as the man charged with re-building New Orleans after the devastation of cyclone Katrina, Professor Ed Blakely and entrepreneur, businessman and former President of the ACCI, Neville Sawyer. It will also include workshops and practical examples of business, industry and community development.
The conference is targeted to Business and Industry Leaders, Local Government, Regional Economic and Enterprise Development Entities, Area Consultative Committees, Policy Makers, Academics, Educators and Researchers, Community Development Personnel and Consultants.
The conference is being organised by the Central Coast of NSW Area Consultative Committee in partnership with Central Coast Tourism Inc. The University of Newcastle is the principal sponsor and Central Coast Business Review is the media sponsor for the conference.
