For example, the conference will be one of the first major events to discuss regional development following last year’s election. The Rudd Labor Government has signalled significant change in its approach to regional economic development in Australia with a large focus on infrastructure, the re-branding and re-focusing of its national network of Area Consultative Committees as Regional Development Australia and a greater role for local government in the economic progress of the regions. The conference will hear the Australian and NSW Government’s views on regional development, international perspectives from Professors Ed Blakely, Roy Green and Brian Dabson as well as presentations on the sustainability and social aspects of developing regional prosperity. Speakers will also discuss assisting businesses to grow and export from regional Australia. Central Coast Business Review is a sponsor of the Australian Regional Economies Conference 2008. |
