Sharpe Bros. wins Family Business Award

In early May the peak body for family businesses, Family Business Australia (FBA) announced Gosford-based Sharpe Bros. as the 2008 winner of the Third Generation category in the NSW & ACT Family Business of the Year Awards.

Presenting the Award, NSW FBA Chairman Terry Rowney said, “Sharpe Bros. success seems to be attributed largely to the way in which all the generations of the Sharpe family have continued to grow the business through a combination of sound practices and ongoing enthusiasm for their local area.”

“The company’s support of the local artistic community through the Sharpe Bros. Art Prize and the donation of their services to repairing roads after bush fires was admirable.” The judges noted the following outstanding aspects of the Sharpe Bros. application:

• The brothers’ commitment to professionalising and growing the business;
• The important contribution the company makes to the community;
• Their support of and close relationships with their employees.
