When it comes to education we don't get it!

A recent household survey by the Central Coast Research Foundation shows that Central Coast residents, generally, don’t understand the importance of education.

At the same time data obtained from the 2006 Census in relation to educational attainment shows that the Central Coast region is underperforming when it comes to schooling and post-school qualifications.

The CCRF says that given the known associations between educational attainment and employment, labour force participation and income, as well as regional economic development and prosperity, this is an issue that would appear to need attention from policy makers. Understanding the factors that give rise to lower educational attainment in the region is necessary if the issue is to be addressed.

The ageing of the Region’s population is most likely one of the contributing factors. Another factor that may be relevant is the attitudes of the population to education, and its impacts upon the ability to find work, be well paid and to find fulfilling employment.
