Councillors agree on Gosford City Centre

Nine Gosford City councillors have signed a statement of support for the renewal of the Gosford City Centre with only Clr Malcolm Brooks dissenting.

The document, titled The Gosford City Centre Protocol, affirms the signatories' commitment to work together in the interests of their community to progress the revitalisation of the Gosford City Centre.

"By signing this document, councillors are indicating their willingness to put aside political differences and get on with the job of identifying the best possible master plan and way forward for our area," Mayor of Gosford City, Clr Jim Macfadyen said.
"We as a Council look forward to working even more closely with residents over the coming months to come up with the best possible strategy to grow Gosford into a more vibrant and attractive city," said Clr Macfadyen.

"Gosford has waited long enough for the city centre it deserves," he said.

The Gosford City Centre Protocol will be on display in Council's foyer cabinet along with a photograph of those Councillors who signed the protocol.

The Protocol was signed at a week-end briefing of Gosford Councillors and senior executives towards the end of June. While Clr Brooks refused to sign the Protocol he offers no solution to the CBD’s current vacancy rate of 37% - a figure that looks set to worsen in the year ahead.

Central Coast First’s Clr Peter Hale, said, “It’s the first time that councillors have agreed to enlist and to work with professionals in the field on an action plan that actually has outcomes rather than plans and strategies that never happen. It’s about doing something. There won’t be a report at the end of it – we will see, or we won’t see something happening.”

Commending Councillors for their action, Gosford Chamber of Commerce President, Bob Bourne, said, “We will stand shoulder to shoulder with the nine Councillors to improve the CBD. We consider the constant wihiteanting by Clr Brooks over many years most inappropriate.”
