Gosford CBD must be election focus

small_pic_edgarThe debate about an amalgamation of Wyong and Gosford Councils appears to be heating up, and so it should. The fact that these two councils cannot work together is a disgrace and is impacting on the future of our region. The water corporation issue has become a joke and has sent all the wrong messages to Macquarie Street.

It’s a bit hard to chastise the State Government for their neglect of the region when we as a community has such divisive leadership. An amalgamation is the only answer.  Once we know who the candidates are for the September Elections we will be wanting to know what their policies are.

Pardon my cynicism, but the signing of a Gosford City Centre Protocol by nine of our Councillors supporting the CBD redevelopment has to be a bit about an election coming on. While I do believe that Clrs Maher, Hale, Macfadyen, Scott and Latella are genuine I remain unconvinced about the others. The one honest broker was the infamous Clr Malcolm Brooks who refused to sign. He wants to see Gosford remain a 1950’s theme park.

Three other councillors who signed the Protocol would should hold their heads in shame were Clrs Holstein, Doyle and Bell. These three, along with Brooks, killed the Spurbest project that would have changed Gosford and brought it into the 21st Century.

With Gosford in the hopeless state that it is now in they are hopeful that people will not remember their complicity.
The Council elections in September should be a referendum on the future of Gosford. And as Clr Brooks is standing as some sort of an ‘independent Liberal’ we will soon see just how many voters want a city they can be proud of.

This month we welcome two new companies to the Central Coast – international professional services firm GHD and tyre recycling and manufacturing company Rubber Solutions.

GHD have moved into the new Zenith building at Tuggerah Business Park. Their move is a vote of confidence in our region. While it was prompted by them winning the Mangrove Dam pipeline project work they are obviously here for the long haul.

Rubber Solutions’ move from Western Sydney to Lisarow was prompted by the fact that Ray Goldberg lives at Avoca and was fed up with the drive to Sydney each day, but more so by the cost of premises and the opportunity to get good staff. It nearly didn’t happen though. Gosford Council was singularly unhelpful. One would have thought that a company employing thirty people and wanting to get firmly established in our region would have got the backing of Council. They just weren’t interested.

Our congratulations to Jason van Genderen of Treehouse Creative for winning the Sydney Film Festival “Telstra MobileMovie Awards” The Central Coast has a lot of highly creative young people doing amazing things and this guy is one of them. The 60-second movie titled ‘My Town is Broken’ used the Gosford CBD as the subject. It was a brilliant piece of work and he now gets to show it off at the finals in Canada.
