Council helps with Development Applications

Wyong Shire Council has continued to streamline the process for developers submitting development applications (DAs).

Council’s Business Development Manager is inviting the local development industry to discuss their DAs with Council prior to submission.

Pre-lodgement meetings enable Council staff reviewing a proposed application with a developer to identify any alternate approaches or recommend changes the developer needs to make. This system aims to resolve any potential issues with the application at a preliminary stage and allows it to pass through Council’s formal application assessment process smoothly.

Benefits of the pre-lodgement meetings and processing development applications quickly are that new businesses find the Shire more attractive.

Council’s Business Development Manager, Garry McLachlan said meeting directly with developers meant Council staff could explain how to submit clear and complete DAs.

“Recent figures show Wyong Council takes an average of 34.95 days to process DAs, which is nearly 20 days quicker than the state average of 51.1 days,” Mr McLachlan said. “By being efficient and processing applications quicker than most other Councils, this helps to attract businesses to the Shire and provide additional employment opportunities for our residents.

“Council has been networking with individual developers, professional groups and project managers to showcase Council’s ability to assist in what can be a very daunting process.

“Council is familiar with the development application process so it only makes sense that we are the place to come to for assistance.”
