Brewery plans on display

Plans for the $130 million Bluetongue Brewery at Warnervale have been released by the Department of Planning and are on display at Wyong Shire Council’s Hely St office until Friday September 19, 2008.

Pacific Beverages Pty Ltd engaged international consultants, GHD, to prepare an Environmental Assessment (EA) to assess the potential impacts of the proposed brewery which was submitted to the Department of Planning in April.

The facility will be constructed on a 10 hectare site comprising four Lots located at the south-western end of Burnet Road, off Sparks Road at Warnervale Business Park.

The submission points out that the Brewery’s location will improve efficiency and patterns of distribution and reduce transportation costs through advantages enjoyed by ready access along the F3 Freeway. As part of their submission, Pacific Beverages say that the brewery will be a national facility, servicing product demand for all states via the existing Coca-Cola Amatil distribution network. It is to be developed in two stages with the first stage having a capacity of 50 million litres – increasing to 100 million litres after completion of Stage 2.

The project will include a visitor centre and restaurant and provide a new landmark tourist attraction in the Central Coast / Hunter tourist zone. It will build on the Hunter Valley’s reputation for premium quality food and beverage manufacturing.

The Brewery will employ 140 full-time equivalent people on completion and 200 full-time equivalent people during construction.
Construction is expected to commence in late 2008 and be completed in 2010.

The Coca-Cola Amatil subsidiary, Pacific Beverages, purchased the Hunter-based premium beer brands Bluetongue and Bondi Blonde from John Singleton last December. Pacific Beverages is Coca-Cola Amatil’s joint venture company with SABMiller – one of the world’s leading brewers with a market value of $US42.7 billion.
