Council confident of securing second supermarket for Toukley

Wyong Council is confident of securing a much needed second supermarket for the Toukley Town Centre. Council staff have carried out an extensive review of the Toukley Town Centre in an effort to identify an appropriate site for a second supermarket.

Council’s Business Development Manager Garry McLachlan said that over the past two years Council has been involved in a number of meetings with interested parties with a view to encouraging supermarket operators to locate a second store in Toukley Town Centre and have been working with a number of developers on several projects.

Mr McLachlan said, “Council has also been prepared to offer Council owned land and fast track rezonings where necessary to ensure a second supermarket is established at Toukley. Council currently has three proponents exploring the establishment of a second supermarket at Toukley and I am confident that, within a short period of time, a proposal will be secured and a second supermarket at Toukley will become a reality.”

Council has received representations from a supermarket chain interested in establishing a store within a building in the Toukley Town Centre, and these discussions are ongoing. “We have held discussions with two other potential supermarket developers for a site at East Toukley,’ Mr McLachlan said. “Council will continue to work hard to ensure a second supermarket is delivered at Toukley.”
