Wyong Community Snapshot

Wyong Council has produced a document that provides a look at the community of today, in an effort to plan for the community of the future.

Titled Our Profile 2008, the document is a picture of the current status of the Shire, in terms of our community, environmental issues, economic performance and infrastructure. It has been produced as part of Council’s Shire Strategic Vision Program, which aims to set the direction for the community over the next 20 years.

“This document is important in terms of the decision making process of Wyong Shire Council’s Shire Strategic Vision program,” Council’s Shire Strategic Vision project manager Dan Smith said.

“It is a range of facts on where we are at present and trends influencing Wyong’s future and is designed to encourage long-term thought, planning and action. One thing to be clear of is that the document does not define future direction, but it does provide facts concerning many of the issues facing the Shire today.” said Mr Smith.

Our Profile 2008 is presented under four chapter headings; Community, Environment, Economy and Infrastructure. Each chapter provides a picture of the Shire and the challenges faced by Council in creating a 20-year vision.

The Shire Strategic Vision is being developed by the community and facilitated by Council. The Vision program focuses on the triple bottom line of the economy, the community and the environment. Once a long-term Vision for the Shire is established, it will set the direction for strategic planning and other programs carried out by Council, the State and Federal Governments in the community.

Our Profile 2008 will play an important part in the process, as it aims to stimulate widespread discussion about the opportunities and challenges facing the Shire over the next 20 years and encourage the community, Council and State Government in the processes of setting strategies and actions to ultimately achieve the Shire Strategic Vision.
