Central Coast gives record amount to Red Shield Appeal
Despite difficult economic times the Central Coast community have again opened their hearts to support The Salvation Army’s recently concluded 2008 Red Shield Appeal. The overall appeal, including Doorknock Appeal, direct mail, and the Business Appeal which concluded on 30 June, raised close to $600,000 – a record amount and an increase of almost 5% over the 2007 result.
Interestingly, and perhaps reflecting difficult times for business, the business community raised only $68,000 compared with $77,000 in the previous year. Commenting on its success Central Coast Appeal Director, Rodney Dibley, said, “Traditionally in difficult economic times the community tends to give more, not less, to The Salvation Army. We are very grateful for this immense trust and support given to us by the Central Coast community.
“We wish to thank the public for their outstanding support and generosity. The monies raised will help ensure that The Salvation Army can continue with its wide range of services assisting those less fortunate in the community in the year ahead. These programs and services locally cost more than $1.5million annually to provide," said Mr Dibley.
“With higher interest rates, food costs and petrol prices many local families are struggling to make ends meet. Similarly, many young people are fighting addiction and homelessness. These sobering facts remind us that these funds are desperately needed.” The Salvation Army also thanks its great team of volunteers for their support. “Without them this result would not have been possible,” said Mr Dibley.
