Traffic flow and congestion in the Terrigal CBD

Terrigal Chamber of Commerce has written to Gosford Council raising the concerns of businesses who feel that Terrigal will see a slow death if the traffic flow is not rectified immediately.

The Chamber says that all business owners have suffered large losses in trade and numerous complaints from customers about how long it takes to get into Terrigal on weekends and peak holiday periods.

Some people are suggesting that it has taken them up to ten minutes to travel from the front of the Terrigal Hotel to the beach car park at the start of The Esplanade.

Of major concern are comments from some of their loyal customers who have indicated that they will not come back to Terrigal. Crowne Plaza has experienced a drop of approximately 40,000 people over the past year with research apparently indicating the traffic and parking issues are the main reasons.

Council is planning further pavement improvements for The Esplanade to commence around Easter 2008 which will add a pedestrian crossing bringing to four the number of crossings along the beachfront. With the present three crossings traffic flow comes to a complete stand still as pedestrians saunter across one at a time.

Meanwhile the multi-level car park completed prior to Christmas holidays last year remains under used as Council refuses to provide adequate signage to direct motorists to enter via the Charles Kay Drive and Scenic Highway alternate route.
