Tourism NewsHoliday Parks return record profitWyong Shire Council’s four holiday parks returned a record profit during the 2007/08 financial year. The parks reported a $2.3 million surplus which will be returned to ratepayers through improved waterways, parks and landmarks. Wyong Shire Council’s Manager Business Unit, Tara Mills, said the record surplus demonstrated the success of the Central Coast Holiday Parks Business Strategy. “Council is investing $4.65 million over five years to make our local holiday parks more attractive to visitors and deliver better outcomes to Wyong residents,” Ms Mills said. Ms Mills said there were encouraging signs that the holiday parks would return an increased profit this year. “We had a record number of visitors stay at the holiday parks during the July school holidays,” she said. “Across all four parks bookings were more than double the same period last year. These fantastic results are a direct consequence of the Central Coast Holiday Parks Business Strategy and provide a major economic boost to our region,” she said. Ms Mills added that Council was currently completing $1.84 million in upgrades to Council’s four holiday parks. “The upgrades include the extension of the reception area and offices at all four parks, extensive landscaping, the installation of new cabins and refurbishment of existing cabins,” she said.“The upgrades are progressing well and are expected to be completed in time for the summer holidays. Once completed, they will allow even more visitors to stay at our parks.” Wyong Shire Council operates four holiday parks at Budgewoi, Canton Beach, Norah Head and Toowoon Bay. |
