New direction for Community Chest Central Coast Community Chest is to be rebranded as United Way Central Coast as part of a new direction for the organisation.
Central Coast Community Chest has for over 30 years been an affiliate of United Way, using their fundraising methods to raise funds for some eighty local charities. The move follows the appointment of Ed McCarthy as General Manager in early November.
Mr McCarthy worked for the Community Chest in the early 1980’s as a volunteer under the Chest’s Founder, Dr Heather Bassett. “I have a sound understanding of the concept of United Way, particularly the use of the Payroll Deduction Scheme to raise funds through local business,” Mr McCarthy said. In addition, Mr McCarthy’s long experience working with charities has given him a thorough knowledge of corporate governance and fiduciary duties of directors and management.
Mr McCarthy said that the United Way of giving a little each week can make a big difference. “An employee giving just one dollar per week through a Payroll Deduction Scheme will raise $52 per year. Multiply that by a thousand employees across many businesses and we have the means to raise some meaningful funds for the needy,” he said.
Mr McCarthy was most recently General Manager of Hand Brake Turn at West Gosford which gives disadvantaged young people a real opportunity to get their lives on track and develop a successful pathway for their future. He succeeds Gosford City Councillor, Chris Holstein, who was General Manager for seven years.
