WaterCell wins HIA Product Innovation Awards

Central Coast Builder, Vision Build combined with Vision Water to win both the "Product Innovation Award" and the "Most Efficient Use of Water" categories at the recent 2007 HIA Hunter Housing Awards.

The WaterCell, developed by Vision Water in Gosford is an engineered, high volume rainwater harvesting, storage and reticulation system which forms an integral part of any new residential or commercial building. At the cutting edge of rainwater harvesting techniques, the WaterCell can easily be incorporated into any building, regardless of shape or size. The WaterCell is an exciting new development that is now being launched to the Australian and international markets. The Vision Water WaterCell was also a finalist in the Engineers Australia 2007 Engineering Excellence Awards for both the Sydney and Newcastle Division and was grouped with large projects of the highest International standards.
Vision Water and Vision Build combined to build the first prototype house at Hornsby Heights in Sydney two years ago and since that time the home has become fully self-sustained by rainwater for all household water needs, including drinking water. The home at Hornsby Heights is a four WaterCell installation and is currently at 80% storage capacity.
A typical WaterCell is 6m long x 4m wide x 0.7m deep and has a capacity of 16,000 litres. It is manufactured from recyclable polyethylene to USFDA and EC compliance for food contact and drinking water. They are contained within the footprint of any building and the components are easily accessible, serviceable, replaceable, recyclable, and affordable.
Vision Water CEO, Geoff Ball says that “current records and long-term statistics show that the Eeast Coast of Australia receives more than enough rainfall to provide every household and community facility with its own sustainable water supply”. Vision Water believes that Australian home owners and businesses should have the ability to supply all of their own water needs, particularly in the current restricted environment. Rainwater is our natural renewable resource and governments have a responsibility to act by amending building regulations to include the mandatory provision for rainwater harvesting facilities to be an integral component of all new development, not just housing.
Vision Water has another display home at Narara containing a four WaterCell installation, giving the residents 64,000 litres of water to utilise at their discretion, bypassing the current level 4 water restrictions imposed by Gosford City Council.

Anyone who is considering a new development of any type should contact Vision Water at the planning stage to allow the WaterCell to be integrated into the design. For more information on WaterCell contact Vision Water on (02) 4324 3622.
