A glimpse into Gosford's futureGosford City local government area should gain 32,000 new residents by 2031, according to population and household forecasts just released by Gosford City Council. The forecasts predict that the main growth area will be centred around Gosford CBD as the city increasingly assumes its role as capital of the Central Coast.Yet it is also forecast that as population increases, the number of people per household will decrease. Overall, Gosford City will have a progressively ageing population, with residents over 60 accounting for nearly one third of the population by 2031 and the proportion of children under 17 dropping to 19.5 per cent. The new population and household forecasts allow community and business groups, investors, Council staff, students and the general public to take a look into the future to understand how local communities are changing, said Council's senior social planner, Sally Anderson-Day. The forecasts complement Council's community profile information launched in August last year describing the characteristics of local communities from census information captured from 1991 to 2001. Ms Anderson-Day says that the community profile and new population and household forecasts "provide a good understanding of the diversity of our community and how we change over time". The forecasts are available in both graph and table form from Council's website at www.gosford.nsw.gov.au. Users can go to Community Services then Community Information to access the interactive information that updates forecasts each time a date is changed. The community profile information will be updated upon release of the 2006 Australian Bureau of Statistics data expected in August. |
