Domestic Tourism on the Central Coast performs above State average
Domestic tourism figures for the first quarter of 2007 (January till March 2007) have been released by the National Visitor Survey and the Central Coast region has continued to perform above State average for over 12 months.
In the domestic market, the Central Coast received almost 1.4 million overnight visitors in the first three months of 2007, which is an increase of 6.5% over the previous year (State average is 4.6%). During the same period, visitors spent over 4.2 million nights in the region, an increase of 14.8% over the previous year while the State average showed a 4.9% increase. The Central Coast region was also able to increase its market share slightly (0.1% in visitors and 0.6% in nights) - in comparison, NSW state-wide lost market share. Tourism employment is estimated at 6,900, representing 5.2% of the region’s employment. Commenting on the survey, Horst Endrulat, CEO of Central Coast Tourism said, “these figures are excellent and reflect a number of achievements. They show that with more and better product available on the Central Coast (i.e. Crowne Plaza Terrigal, Quay West Resort Magenta Shores, Mantra Ettalong Beach, Star of the Sea Luxury Apartments, Oaks Waterfront Resort, Kooindah Waters Golf Club, etc.) and increased co-operative marketing, the region is on a winning streak” “I am looking forward to the dredging of Half Tide Rock in Ettalong which will provide us with more opportunities to attract boat charters from Sydney to Ettalong, as well as to Gosford, and also next year to the sinking of the HMAS Adelaide, which will inject a huge number of recreational divers and valuable tourism dollars into the area” he added.
