Outrigger sale sees name change at Ettalong Resort

Following an announcement in March by Stella Hospitality Group that its parent, MFS Limited had settled the $120 million acquisition of the Australian and New Zealand operations of the Hawaii-based Outrigger Accommodation Group, the Outrigger Ettalong Beach resort has now been rebranded Mantra Ettalong Beach.

All fourteen Outrigger properties included in the deal will be converted to brands within Stella Hospitality Group’s portfolio of hotels, apartments and resorts.
Ten former Outrigger properties will now become Mantra Hotels, Resorts and Apartments, expanding the chain to 21 properties and positioning it as one of the biggest operators in the 4 to 4˝ star accommodation market. Three Outrigger sites scheduled to begin trading between now and 2009 will also open as Mantra Resorts.
Four Outrigger properties will become Peppers Retreats, Resorts & Hotels, taking the total number of Peppers properties to 23.
Bob East, Chief Executive Officer of Stella Hospitality Group, said the integration of the former Outrigger properties represents a significant expansion of the Stella Hospitality Group’s presence in tourism, particularly through the Mantra Resorts brand.
“The Outrigger deal is a tremendous boost to Mantra resorts in the four-star accommodation market,” he said. “It delivers us a collection of premium properties in highly desirable tourism destinations around Australia.”
The transactions will increase Stella Hospitality Group’s total rooms under management to a projected 15000 rooms.
