Domestic Tourism up 11.1%

Tourism NSW has just released the latest tourism statistics covering the year ended September 2006.

The Central Coast Region received nearly 1.4 million domestic overnight visitors, which is an increase of 11.1% in comparison to the year ended September 2005.
Actual visitor nights in the region increased by 27.8% to 4.2 million nights.  The Central Coast region also increased its market share, plus 0.9 points on actual visitors and 1.7 points on visitor nights compared with 2005.
The most popular activities undertaken by the domestic tourists are: “Going to the Beach (44%) “Shopping” (30.5%) and “Dining Out” (48.3%).
“These results are excellent for the Central Coast and reflect not only the continuous marketing of the region but also the importance of tourism developments and icons such as Quay West Resort Magenta Shores, Crowne Plaza Terrigal, The Oaks Waterfront Resort and Outrigger Ettalong Beach Resort, The Australian Reptile Park and Glenworth Valley Horse Riding”, Horst Endrulat, CEO, Central Coast Tourism said.  “Visitor-expenditure is important to the local community and supports many jobs on the Central Coast” he added.
“CCT’s statistics for the period beyond September 2006 are encouraging and suggest that the growth will continue well into 2007” he said. With the development of the new Gateway Centre at Mount Penang, CCT expects even better results for the region, as more visitors can be targeted who are presently by-passing the region.
The international market delivered 34,000 overnight visitors, which is slightly down, (1.3%) but according to CCT this is due to seasonality. “We expected some group business from Asia starting to come to the Central Coast late last year, but that was delayed until January 2007” Horst Endrulat said.
