Gosford CBD to get Business Improvement District (BID)
Council will support the establishment of a BID within the Gosford Regional City Centre, subject to a suitable business plan and the CBD Special Rate Levy being allocated to the established BID.
As part of this move Council will establish a steering committee to develop the structure of the BID, build business support for the venture, and produce a business plan. Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) have operated across the United States and Canada for 40 years and, more recently, have spread to the United Kingdom and New Zealand. BIDs are non-profit, public/private sector partnerships in which property and business owners raise funds to enhance the management and appeal of their districts, especially in declining commercial districts. BIDs are designed to improve conditions for business in specific areas, attract and retain businesses, generate jobs and improve the quality of life for those using the districts. Central Coast First Councillor Peter Hale proposed the establishment of a BID for Gosford CBD following his, and other Gosford Councillors’ attendance at the International Cities Town Centres & Communities Conference in New Zealand in June 2007.
