Visionaries our only hope

While the neanderthals of Gosford are working overtime to maintain the place as a 1950s theme park, those with a vision for the future need to be driving a new theme – Gosford the Internet City. This year we have been handed two massive opportunities that will boost economic activity immeasurably.

Firstly, The Landing which for the first time is a plan that has been put together not only with community support, but also one that is financially viable. Lend Lease and the directors of the Central Coast Regional Development Corporation are not pie eaters.  They have untold experience in getting big projects off the ground.

When these people get involved, the big end of town (Sydney) takes notice and this augers well for the rest of the town centre, made up as it is of a collection buildings ready to fall down, as they open their eyes to a CBD full of possibilities. Not everyone will want to have an office on the water’s edge but plenty will want one in the CBD. There are businesses in Sydney that would come to Gosford but to date no one wants them.

The idea presently afoot as that the CBD will become a ghost town as The Landing sucks business from the CBD. This is nonsense and shows that many of the property and business owners in Gosford suffer from myopia – it’s always been the case in Gosford!

The second opportunity is that broadband will be coming into the CBD of Gosford early next year.  No one can stop that.  The Federal Government and the NBN Co have made the decision.Broadband is here! This means Gosford can rightly sell itself as an Internet City.  There are hundreds of businesses that are tied to Sydney because of their internet needs.  But they won’t move into rat-infested old world buildings.  They want A Grade space.  And they want pleasant safe surroundings.

Now is the time to grasp the opportunity of The Landing and the opportunity that broadband will bring.

Meanwhile, at The Entrance a new attitude aimed at revitalising the place could see some very positive developments in 2012. The Entrance draft Masterplan has received overwhelming support from the community. There are a number of significant property owners who are seriously looking at putting their money on the line on the basis of this Masterplan.

There are a few issues, not the least being the road through Long Jetty and the resultant traffic delays. But Council is working on that and in due course the State Government and the RTA will have to come to the party.

So, at last some very positive things on the horizon for the Central Coast.

Long Jetty a bohemian art district?

Well that’s the idea of a couple of young people, both locals but have travelled a bit, who have thought outside the square and taken what appears to be the negatives and turned them into positives.

Benjamin Wright and Ana Koutoulas have set up a boutique coffee and clothing business right in the centre of Long Jetty. They have been going just a month and are going gang busters. They have shown us all that new thinking and an open mind is what can make not just Long Jetty but the whole Central Coast a great place.

Finally may we wish all our readers and advertisers a Very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous and Happy New Year.
