Singleton backs Gosford waterfront redevelopment

The chant is growing and it promises to get much louder if a John Singleton led group of business and community members is any indication. They are responding to the constant naysayers with a unified show of strength and their message is clear, they want Gosford to have The Landing and their message is going straight to the NSW Premier, Barry O’Farrell. We are calling on the Premier to do a Barack Obama and say “yes we can” to the redevelopment of the Gosford Waterfront.

We cannot afford to stand by and watch a very small group of people stop this project. We gave them free reign believing they would eventually agree the recognised capital of the Central Coast needed a complete makeover.  In its current shape and look it is unattractive and uninspiring.  The majority of the community recognised that, therefore remained silent, thinking the best idea in decades would surely happen.  They didn’t believe a minority could influence a negative outcome with the knowledge of a dilapidated, insipid and non-welcoming city.

Modern, state-of-the-art office buildings and residential living along with waterfront restaurants and entertainment, a new Performing Arts Centre and a 5-star hotel will bring visitors and residents to Gosford and make it a prosperous and beautiful city for all to enjoy.

The equation is simple.  If we want jobs for us and our kids today and into the future we must do something.  A strong local economy provides opportunities and jobs.  Doing nothing will be catastrophic, the Central Coast already has a staggering 33% youth unemployment and approximately 40,000 commuting to Sydney and surrounds daily for work.  These numbers will escalate if we continue to choose to do nothing.  Our children should not be forced to move away because we lacked the vision and the willingness to provide for the future.

Stage 1 of The Landing will deliver approximately 5,000 new jobs, 4,000 in new office buildings, and 200 in retail, restaurants and marina and 250 at the hotel and conference centre.  As the recognised capital for the Central Coast, residents should demand Gosford City is a thriving and diverse business and recreational city.  The Landing gives us that opportunity but unfortunately the whole project is at risk if Stage 2 is put on hold.

“The majority has to become the new minority and it has to happen fast if we want The Landing to progress in Gosford.  Minorities are always vocal and their interests never extend beyond their own agendas, whereas the majority normally sit back thinking commonsense and a good thing will win over.  Regrettably, minorities of all descriptions have been winning big in Gosford for decades, but it has to stop,” said John Singleton.   “It’s time for the majority to become vocal and become champions for the cause otherwise the only part of Gosford that will be relevant are the first two letters, GO, that is go straight past Gosford, there is nothing here to see.”

We should not have to prove to the O’Farrell government how much we need this project, it should be that obvious.  Sadly it doesn’t appear that way.  So now we are calling to arms those who want to look after the future, to provide jobs for all age groups and to build a platform for future generations.

Join John Singleton and his Managing Director, Monique Marks, who are leading the chorus of business people who want to make a positive change for the future of Gosford.  Others saying yes include Mayor of Gosford City Laurie Maher, Paul Wrigley General Manager of SeaFm and 2GO, Warren Hughes, ACS, Peter Hudson Lawyer, John McKay CEO CC Mariners, Deborah Warwick Chair-GBID and Manager Imperial Shopping Centre Gosford, Edgar Adams Publisher Central Coast Business Review, Rod Dever President Gosford Chamber of Commerce, Darren Jamieson President Terrigal Chamber, Chris King Events Manager Central Coast Tourism, Paul Brasch GBID Manager, Ken Baker President Central Coast NSW Business Chamber, Daniel Farmer, Regional Manager, Central Coast NSW Business Chamber, Tim Gunasinghe President Erina Chamber of Commerce and Gosford property owner, David Abrahams Broadband Champion and Director of Organise Internet.
