GHD awarded contract for Mardi-Mangrove Link project
A major contract for the Mardi-Mangrove Link project has been awarded by Wyong Shire Council to GHD, a Sydney and Newcastle based professional engineering consultancy.
The contract, which is valued at around $6 million, involves the preparation of design, approvals and construction documentation for the 21-kilometre underground water pipeline through Yarramalong Valley together with two water pump stations in and around Mardi Dam. Commenting on the awarding of the contract, Wyong Shire Council Mayor, Warren Welham said GHD tendered a good proposal in terms of cost, experience and project understanding. “They have a history of successfully completing contracts similar in scope and nature to the Mardi-Mangrove Link,” he said. “They also indicated they would establish a local office in Wyong which will bring economic benefits for the region.” Preliminary work is already underway on the pipeline design but GHD will provide more detailed design expertise. Concept designs are due to be finalised during February 2008 followed by detailed designs later in the year. Construction of the Mardi-Mangrove Link is scheduled to begin by late 2008, subject to the necessary NSW Government approvals, with final commissioning expected around 2010.
