Special Feature: ADC KRONE celebrates 25 years

This year Berkeley Vale global communications network infrastructure provider and manufacturer, ADC KRONE, celebrates twenty five years in business.

The Berkeley Vale facility was officially opened on 15 February 1984 by the Premier of New South Wales, Neville Wran. The company began its operations in Australia under the KRONE brand with just 51 employees and has grown exponentially over the last 25 years, now employing around 250 people and occupying a land area of over two hectares on its present site.

In early 2004, ADC acquired the KRONE Group, expanding its product offerings with KRONE’s cable and connectivity solutions. The ADC KRONE brand has become a successful global company operating in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia and New Zealand, while the ADC brand operates in the Americas and the rest of the Asia Pacific.

Revolutionary products

With sales into more than 150 countries, the ADC KRONE provides the connections for wireline, wireless, cable, broadcast and enterprise networks around the world. Their innovative network infrastructure equipment enables high-speed internet, data, video, and voice services to residential, business and mobile subscribers. All of its products are tried and tested and designed to operate beyond 20 years with a 20 year performance warranty.

In Australia, ADC KRONE products have been used by all of the leading telecommunications carriers, major government departments and energy providers, along with many of the major banks and finance groups.

Telstra has been using ADC KRONE products in its network since 1981 with no reports of failure. Even under harsh environmental conditions, Telstra have relied on ADC KRONE for performance and longevity for more than 22 years.

Known for consistent high quality and service, ADC KRONE Australia is part of a global network of world-class facilities producing high-quality products. With this global network, ADC KRONE has more than 200 million connection ports in service around the world, carrying practically every voice, data and video signal.

Research and development

ADC KRONE’s Central Coast facility, also home to its Australian headquarters, is the centre of excellence for the Asia Pacific region. There is a research and development team on site that designs new products along with the specialised machinery required in the manufacturing process at the plant.

All new products are subjected to rigorous testing to ensure they meet stringent ISO Standards and provide long term performance before they are released to market. The team has been responsible for 435 patents lodged for Australian designed products.

In recent years, the company has invested in research and development innovations, producing a steady flow of new technologies. As a vertically integrated manufacturer, ADC KRONE controls virtually every aspect of the manufacturing process – from concept, to design, to engineering, to prototype and to completed product ready for the network.

Flexible manufacturing processes allow orders to be custom-tailored and ADC KRONE produces more than 60,000 different copper, fibre and wireless components for its customers every year.

Environmentally responsible

ADC KRONE is dedicated to a proactive approach to environmental compliance and protection that serves its employees, customers and the community in which it operates. ADC KRONE complies with the requirements of ISO14001 and functions as a registered Certified Environmental Management System.

The Berkeley Vale production facility has been environmentally aware for the last 15 years, initiating programs that include reduction in power consumption, recycling, material reduction and water management systems.

Continuous improvement of the company’s environmental performance is a long-term commitment of ADC KRONE’s business mission. This is reflected in the adoption of the ‘environmental accounting’ approach to its waste operations.

By monitoring waste levels, the company aims to continually reduce waste and increase the recycling component of all waste. An active program is also in place for the reduction of chemicals in the manufacturing process, also ensuring that recycling and reuse of chemicals is exercised wherever possible. The company’s environmental objectives and targets are reviewed on an annual basis.

ADC KRONE is committed to operating in compliance with applicable statutory environmental laws, regulations and other requirements and therefore, prevention of pollution is a paramount priority at all times.
