Boydita back in business quickly after ATM raidThe raid on Westpac’s Erina ATM in the early hours of Tuesday morning on April 21 caused what may be termed as some significant collateral damage for neighbouring flower retailer, Boydita Flowers Delivered.Thieves had firstly tried to blow-up the nab ATM at Fountain Plaza but were unsuccessful and moved across to Westpac where they succeeded in destroying Westpac’s ground level banking chamber and at the same time taking out Boydita. Boydita owners Lynn and David Ross received a call from their security company that their alarm had gone off, however when they arrived a big part of Erina had been sealed off by police. They were unable to access their premises until late in the morning. After sighting the damage, the Ross’ thought they had only one choice, particularly with Mothers Day coming up fast – to relocate their operation to their flower farm at Somersby and depending on their website and telephones. However, they soon found out that when the chips are down help can come from almost every quarter. “Initially we were devastated,” said Mrs Ross, “but we were a little lucky – Phil Brand, owner of Fountain Plaza, Property Manager, Tim Gunasinghe, and David Brand did all they could to help. They offered us a vacant shop they had behind Brando’s Café along with some liquor fridges they had in store that were ideal for our flower displays and storage. We started moving in that afternoon and Telstra had us up and running by the next day.” “Westpac were extremely helpful as were the nab, signwriters Signco, Star 104.5FM, Kim Williams from Erina Chamber of Commerce and so many from the Fountain Plaza business community,” said Mrs Ross. While Mrs Ross was getting the business underway by Wednesday morning, husband David was working on rebuilding their old premises. “We’ll be back in by the end of May,” he said. Meanwhile Westpac are expecting to back into full operation by mid-May. |
