Central Coast joins with the Hunter to profile innovation

In 2008 the Hunter staged the first Innovation Festival for the region.

The initiative grew from a wide group of regional stakeholders committing their support and included three levels of government, industry and business associations, education and research organisations, private sector companies and the people of the region.

The Festival was held over a twelve day period with a program of forty-seven events that attracted over 2,500 people.
The 2008 Festival was so successful that there was even more support for the staging of another innovation festival in 2009.

“This year the Festival will incorporate the Central Coast and continue with the aim to showcase leading innovation and highlight creativity across the region,” said Neville Sawyer, Chair of the Hunter Central Coast Innovation Festival (HCCIF) Committee.

"We have been very fortunate to gain sponsorship support from GHD as a major sponsor for 2009. We also have the support of the Hunter Economic Development Corporation in the management of the project and in securing important funding from the NSW State Government through the Department of State and Regional Development,” said Mr Sawyer.

The Festival is part of a national effort to support innovation. Mr Sawyer added, “The Hunter Central Coast Innovation Festival is part of the national not-for-profit Australian Innovation Festival which was established to encourage opportunities for participants in research and development, and technology commercialisation across all industry sectors.”

The Festival takes place from 8 – 22 May 2009. It will include seminars, trade fairs, exhibitions, awards and workshops. The Festival appeal is diverse and attracts an audience from CEOs to school children.

“The Festival is an enormous opportunity for our region to showcase innovation and attract investment, employment and export prospects. We have an exciting line up of businesses, industry leaders, government, regional stakeholders and educational institutions keen to participate in the 2009 Hunter Central Coast Innovation Festival,” said Mr Sawyer.
