Central Coast Grammar School students get top marks

Central Coast Grammar School is celebrating the achievements of its Year 12 students in the 2009 Higher School Certificate and the International Baccalaureate.

Ten students are listed as All-round Achievers, scoring above 90% in at least ten units (Band6 HSC/IB equivalent) with School Debating Team Captain, Lauren Holz being named Dux of the School with an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 99.85.

32% of students achieved an ATAR over 90 and 47% achieved an ATAR over 80. 42% of students achieved Band 6 HSC/IB (equivalent) in one or more subjects.

“I am absolutely delighted with the performance of Central Coast Grammar School students in the 2009 HSC and IB,” said Headmaster, William Low.

“The School has a proud tradition of academic excellence and there has been a significant increase in the number of Band 6 HSC / IB (equivalent) results this year. What is particularly pleasing is that so many students achieved at a high level in all subjects leading to an increasing number of students achieving high ATARs and access to their preferred university course.”

“The Class of 2009 is a terrific group of talented young people,” said Denise McDonough, Head of Senior College, “and they worked diligently in strong partnership with their teachers to realise their potential.

“The ongoing support of their parents has also had an immeasurable part to play in their success. Students at all levels achieved remarkable results and should be truly satisfied with their efforts.”

In late January, the Australian Government launched the “myschool” website. While incomplete and underdeveloped it does focus on literacy and numeracy performance. The site reveals that not only is Central Coast Grammar School one of the best regional schools in Australia but it is punching above its weight and is more than comparable with the most elite and expensive schools in the country. This is not only good news for CCGS parents but a very important attractor for the Central Coast.

Mr Low said, “Businesses and professionals looking to relocate to the Central Coast can do so in the comfort of knowing we have one of the best schools in NSW as a total package.”

Registration for Central Coast Grammar School’s scholarship program for Years 5 – 11 in 2011 closes on March 12, and bookings are now being taken for the first Open Morning of the year on March 4. For more information visit www.ccgs.nsw.edu.au or call 4367 6766.
