Retail NewsIGA supermarket opens at Kanwal -- Woolies redevelops at Lake Haven Shopping Centre -- Coles buys Kincumber Shopping Centre -- Erina Fair appoints Centre ManagerIGA Supermarket opens at Kanwal “Kanwal is an ideal location for our market as we are a convenience style store. The closest shops are at Wadalba and Lake Haven Shopping Centre. In addition there is a very high traffic flow around the Village.” Mr Coleman said that it would take around twelve months to establish the business. “People need to change their ‘top-up’ habits and this will take a while,” he said. IGA stores focus on their community and we will be getting involved with our community. IGA contributes to a Community Chest and we expect to put $5,000 back into local charities this year. In addition we are launching a store-driven community benefit scheme. This will involve a token system for customers to choose to contribute to their own community and sporting groups. They will be issue with tokens based on 10 cents for every $20 they spend. Forty-five people are employed in the Kanwal store which is managed by Murray Watson of Morisset.
Lake Haven Centre Manager, Mike Cochrane said, “We are excited to be able to work with Woolworths which will see the Lake Haven store converted to the most current Woolworths store design. On completion the new store will enhance what is already a comprehensive grocery and fresh food offer at Lake Haven. “Our customers have been asking for a larger Woolworths, so to be able to proceed with a development that meets our customers’ expectations is pleasing,” he said. The new enlarged Woolworths store is expected to be trading by early December. The refurbishment is being carried out by Inten Constructions which has also carried out the refurbishment of Woolworths’ Gosford, Bay Village, Woy Woy and Erina Fair supermarkets.
