Treetop Adventure Park announced as Awards finalist -- Wyong Council goes it alone in bid for NSW Surf Lifesaving Championships -- Minister launches Surf Tourism Action Plan
Treetop Adventure Park announced as Awards finalist
NSW Minister for Tourism, Jodi McKay, has congratulated the Treetop Adventure Park of Wyong Creek for being selected as a finalist in the 2009 NSW Tourism Awards in the ‘New Tourism Development’ category.
“The NSW Tourism Awards are the State’s most prestigious tourism accolade,” Ms McKay said. “I congratulate each finalist on their nomination and thank them for their continued contribution to tourism in NSW.
The NSW Government has worked hard with industry to ensure NSW maintains the lion’s share of international and domestic visitors. The NSW Tourism Awards is about recognising the importance of tourism to the State’s economy and rewarding the tourism operators who have helped to enhance our reputation as a destination, both domestically and internationally.”
Ken Corbett, Chairman of the Tourism Industry Council NSW said that the Awards play a critical role in driving product innovation and quality throughout the NSW tourism industry. “These finalists help to showcase the professionalism, dedication and innovation at the heart of the NSW tourism industry,” said Mr Corbett.
Winners of Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards will be announced at the NSW Tourism Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner on Thursday 19 November at The Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour.
Presented by the Tourism Industry Council NSW, the NSW Tourism Awards is the largest and most prestigious event on the State’s tourism calendar. The Awards are supported by NSW Government.
Wyong Council goes it alone in bid for NSW Surf Lifesaving Championships
Wyong Council has voted to continue with the bid to bring the 2011-2013 NSW Surf Lifesaving Championships to the Central Coast. This is despite Gosford City Council's decision to withdraw its support for a Central Coast bid. Wyong Council will now fund and conduct the bid on its own, as they believe the championships will bring considerable economic and social benefits to the area.
Minister launches Surf Tourism Action Plan
NSW Tourism Minister, Jodi McKay has called on the backpacking industry to get behind the State’s new marketing campaign to promote itself as the premier surf destination in Australia for both domestic and international tourists.
Speaking at the launch of the Surf Tourism Action Plan in Sydney in late September, Ms McKay said the Government recognised “the great potential of this sector, particularly within the backpacker market. I would encourage all those in the backpacker accommodation market, with significant numbers of surfers among their guests already, to work with Tourism NSW.”
The initiative will include a Tourism NSW surf website (visitnsw.com/surf) and advertising and promotions in surfing and tourism publications. The three year plan aims to consolidate the State’s position as Australia’s top surfing destination – it already attracts 40 per cent of all international and domestic surf tourists, has 77 of the country’s top 100 surf beaches according to realsurf.com and the most accessible surfing coastline in the country.
As well as backpackers, international students and working holiday makers, the campaign will target families looking for a coastal holiday.
Tourism NSW has partnered with Surfing NSW, Events NSW and surf schools around the State to promote local beaches to surfers of all abilities. “We are home to 32 accredited surf schools – more than any other state – and an important facet of the Action Plan is acknowledging surf schools make the experience safe and enjoyable for visitors,” said Ms McKay.
