Celebrating Success an evening to cherish

In late September, the Central Coast Academy of Sport hosted its second annual networking event titled ‘Celebrating Success’.

The evening held in the conservatory at Crowne Plaza Terrigal highlighted the goals and aspirations of a number of athletes and a coach.

Ian Robilliard, Managing Director of the Central Coast Academy of Sport said, “The evening is designed to showcase a number of athletes to our key business partners, sponsors and suppliers. It is always refreshing to hear first hand from the athletes and to demonstrate to our partners that their support is being deployed in a responsible and effective manner.

“On the evening we heard from Rachel Robinson, a young golfer; Murray Strachan, a member of the Rugby Union squad; and Warwick Whitmore, a member of the athletics squad. These three athletes were great on the night and true role models for our organisation. We also heard from Chris Ohlback, our Basketball coach. Chris has been involved with the organisation since inception, so he too had some wonderful insights into the role of the coach,” said Mr Robilliard.

The evening was also used as a vehicle to remind those in attendance about the Australian Sports Foundation (ASF). The ASF allows individuals and organisations to make charitable donations to the Central Coast Academy of Sport.

The money raised is then channeled into the many training programs operated by the Academy.  An event such as the ClubsNSW Academy Games in Armidale is a major undertaking by the Central Coast Academy of Sport and the ASF program is utilised to offset the significant costs to the organisation.

In 2009 approximately 90 athletes, coaches and support staff travelled to Armidale to compete in the Games. The cost to provide this opportunity was close to $27,000 but according to Luke Tucker, the Academy’s Operations Manager, it is a program of the highest quality and one not to be missed.

“The squad in 2009 was awesome. We were by far the best performing regional academy in many sports. We had wins in both the boys and girls basketball, our netballers finished third and our golfers and rugby squads did an outstanding job. Our planning has already commenced for our visit in April 2010, so the ASF program is a very important one,” said Mr Tucker.
