Construction starts on Mardi-Mangrove Link
Construction work on the Mardi-
Mangrove Link Project commenced
towards the end of February with construction
company, John Holland establishing
their site office in Yarramalong
Road and work on the Wyong River
pump station commencing in late March.
After extensive planning, investigations, environmental assessments, designs, statutory approvals and community liaison work over the past two years, the physical construction of this project has now commenced. Construction of the two pipelines -1.9km from Wyong River to Mardi Dam and 19km from Mardi Dam to Mangrove Creek Dam -will commence in April.
The project is the largest water infrastructure project on the Central Coast since Mangrove Creek Dam was built and commissioned in 1982.
Key Construction Timeframes
Site establishment - February - John Holland site office established at 148 Yarramalong Road - February - signage to start being erected around key sites - February - approval of construction management plans
Work starting around Wyong River - March - new Wyong River pump station - April - Wyong River off-take structure upgrade - August - Wyong River weir and fishway upgrade
Work starting on the 1.9km pipeline between Wyong River and Mardi Dam - April - pipeline construction and restoration to follow
Work starting around Mardi Dam - March -upgrade Mardi inlet - July - new pump station construction
Work starting on the 19km pipeline between Mardi Dam and Mangrove Creek Dam - April - pipeline construction and restoration to follow - June - micro-tunnel under one river crossing - June-August - pipe bridges built across Wyong River
Work starting at Mangrove Creek Dam - March - new inlet structure at the dam
Project completion and commissioning - January 2011 - construction work due for completion - January-April 2011 - final works and testing - June 2011 - project commissioning and water flowing
