Scott Allen takes over at Pluims

Scott Allen has taken over as Managing Director of the Pluim Group, the West Gosford based commercial building construction, manufacturing and property development group of companies, succeeding his father Graham Allen.

Scott Allen joined the company in 1996 as an apprentice carpenter subsequently becoming an estimator then project manager and more recently construction manager.

He joins an organisation that goes back more than sixty years to 1946 when founder, Bill Pluim, a Dutch building tradesman, settled on the Central Coast and formed a building company and commenced building on the Central Coast.

He instilled in the company a culture based on the old style European trades background of high quality workmanship. This culture gained the company the respect of those he did business with particularly in government where Pluims won many contracts over the years.

In 1958 Graham Allen joined the company as an apprentice in Pluims joinery shop and learned his trade under Bill Pluim. He subsequently became manager of the joinery shop for eighteen years before buying the company in 1978 from
Bill Pluim who was retiring. The years that followed saw the company expand into commercial and industrial construction and property development.

The Pluim Group of Companies covers twelve separate companies some of them trading separately under new ownership.

Pluim Constructions, the original construction company continues to trade while Pluim Projects is now owned by long standing employees Lindsay Bush and Andrew Heenan and Pluim Interiors is owned by Andrew Sohier.

Currently Pluim Constructions are working on a new Trade Training School building for St Edwards College, East Gosford, a new medical imaging fit-out for Erina Radiology, new Day Oncology Centre, Recovery Ward and Reception
for North Gosford Private Hospital, new medical imaging fit-out for Westmead Imaging and new school buildings at Chertsey, and Umina Pluim Contractors, a Queensland division of Pluims were the developer of the Peppers Pier Resort, Hervey Bay. The construction cost of the project was $55 million. Pluim Constructions undertook all construction work on this site inclusive of 132 spacious apartments, conference rooms, retail shops and a tavern. The site covered 10,000 m2 and included 29,000m2 of floor area. The size of the site was such that a 70m tower crane had to be used to cover the area.

At the 2007 Queensland Master Builders Association’s annual awards Pluim Constructions was honoured by taking out the Project of the Year award, as well as the Tourism & Hospitality Facilities over $20 Million category for Peppers Resort on the Bay.

The judges said, “This building is a magnificent structure which stands at the edge of the bay. It incorporates a beach style pool, secure underground parking, gymnasium and luxury apartments of the highest quality”.

Graham Allen will be continuing as director of the Pluim Group focusing on his own property development and business development for the Pluim Group. He will also have more time to focus on non government aid organisation assistance
for their project developments of which he is passionate about.
