Westfield Tuggerah hosts 2009 Retail Skills ShowcaseWestfield Tuggerah hosted the 12th annual Retail Skills Showcase for Year 11 & 12 students from eleven Central Coast High Schools in June.This year 280 students studying Retail in their HSC studies competed in teams representing their schools over two days in activities including Visual Merchandising, Cash Register Operations, Gift Wrapping, Supermarket Maintenance and Marketing a Business. The event, coordinated by youthconnections.com.au provides hands-on industry experience to students, as well as an opportunity to interact with potential future employers. Maggie MacFie, General Manager of youthconnections.com.au said, “We really appreciate the support from Westfield Tuggerah and the retailers who allowed students into their stores to participate in the Visual Merchandising of their windows. The stores that participated included Autograph, Colorado, ESQ Design, Crossroads, Foxx Foe, HFU, Jay Jays, Katies, Lowes, Man To Man, Millers, Miss IT, Privvy, Reuben F Scarf, Rockmans, Supre, Tom Browns. Coles and Woolworths also participated in the Supermarket Maintenance activities and the Australian Geographic for Marketing a Business. Ms MacFie congratulated all students participating and the winning schools: Henry Kendall, Kincumber, Narara Valley, Northlakes, Wadalba, Wyong, and Tuggerah Lakes Secondary College – The Entrance Campus. Ms MacFie also thanked the sponsors for the 2009 Retail Skills Showcase: Westfield Tuggerah, NSW Department of Education & Training, Catholic Schools Office, SDA-Newcastle & Northern Branch, Central Coast Business Review, Star 104.5 FM, Supply Stream Apparel, Nando’s, Oporto, Donut King, Surf Dive ‘n’ Ski, Cookie Man, Wendy’s and Hungry Jack’s. |
