Umbrella organisation for Coast manufacturers

A number of key business and government organisations are discussing the formation of an umbrella organisation that could support and represent the manufacturing sector on the Central Coast.

The Coast’s manufacturing sector has been fragmented for sometime due to the diversity, location and size of businesses across the region.

The key elements that originated from the meeting were:

· The need to have a truly representative body that can speak and lobby on behalf of Manufacturing.

· To look at the total supply chain as well as manufacturing.

· Finding out what the key needs are for the manufacturing sector: identifying the common key issues.

· The need to support existing clusters and forums through organisational support and funding.

· Support the growth of innovation within manufacturing and supply chain.

· Showcase the Coast’s manufacturing capabilities internally and externally in events such as National Manufacturing week and the innovations festival.

· Collaboration between industry and research organisations to drive innovation with the supply chain.

A steering committee has been formed to take the next steps in establishing this umbrella group.
