Cover Story November 2008 Cover StoryMingara Recreation Club opened Stage 1 of their new $6 million Mingara One fitness centre last month, which will see it again become the premier fitness and recreation complex on the Central Coast.Stage 2 will be located on the site of the present gym and will comprise a family wellness area, with physiotherapy and related health services. This project will cost a further $1.5 million, bringing Mingara’s total investment to $7.5 million. The complex which adjoins Mingara’s indoor heated Olympic and associated pools is designed to provide a full fitness and recreation experience for the whole family. Mingara CEO, Paul Barnett, said the decision to diversify the Club’s activities and expand its offerings to members “fits in with our vision making a significant contribution to the community.” “Our research identified that a significant proportion of the community want to improve their health and wellness and this Centre aims to fulfil that desire,” he said. “The club model of yesterday is long gone and many of the clubs in our region are showing signs of stress. Mingara Recreation Club has been working towards a strategy of diversification for several years, and the opening of the new Mingara One fitness centre is another piece of the puzzle.” The Mingara One centre, which includes the Pool Complex will employ close to 100 trainers, lifeguards, swim instructors, and reception and sales staff. Overall, Mingara now employs some four hundred people making it one of the largest employers on the Central Coast. Mr Barnett complimented the builders, Stevens Construction for their co-operation and bringing the project in on time and on budget. (See story: Stevens Construction completes Mingara project). |
