July 2009 Cover Story

Erina-based managed hosting company, Ultra Serve, successfully launched the first Australian cloud server infrastructure ‘Rejila’ at the 2009 CeBIT Australia Conference and Exhibition on 12-14 May.

Coming off Ultra Serve’s success at the 2008 CeBIT, the 2009 event was an ideal opportunity to launch their new product, Rejila – on demand cloud servers.

“We were placed well in our market being the only hosting company exhibiting that was offering the new cloud computing technology. Cloud computing was the topic of many of the sessions at the CeBIT Conference and is currently attracting a lot of interest,” said Ultra Serve’s Chief Executive Officer, Samuel Yeats.

“We are the first company in Australia to offer a cloud hosting service and our stand was inundated with enquiries, which we are now working through,” he said. Mr Yeats is a leader in cloud computing being involved in various international forums and also speaking at cloud events in Australasia, including the upcoming ‘Cloud Computing: the silver lining’ conference.

Ultra Serve is one of the Central Coast’s great IT success stories. At the age of sixteen Mr Yeats saw a future for hosting, and set up his first server to host business websites for friends and family. That was in the year 2000 when Ultra Serve was set up in a home office. He was still at school and soon found himself juggling the growing demands of his new business with those of his schooling. It took just one year for school to lose out and shortly after that the business took on new clients – some of which included multi-national companies and banks.

With four employees, Ultra Serve had outgrown the home office and in 2006 the business moved into the newly built Platinum building at Erina, taking a 40sqm corporate office to start with but soon needed to expand into the adjacent office. In June 2009, Ultra Serve relocated to a new office in Platinum, taking 166sqm to accommodate its now fourteen staff.

Ultra Serve was one of the first companies to occupy space in late 2003 at the $200 million Ultimo data centre Global Switch when it was first established and remains Australia’s highest quality data centre.

Ultra Serve is a leading Australian managed hosting provider specialising in high availability managed IT infrastructure as a service.

CeBIT Australia is a 3-day business event at Darling Harbour featuring the leading ICT industry exhibition in Asia Pacific, and Global Conferences covering the full spectrum of business technologies.
